Work Injuries

If you’ve been injured at work and traditional medicine isn’t doing enough to help you, chiropractic is a great solution for dealing with injuries and their underlying causes. While medical doctors tend to treat symptoms, chiropractors treat the root of your pain. At Bezak Chiropractic and Rehabilitation, we work with workers compensation cases in Greenbelt, MD to heal your body and help you achieve maximum health.

The difference between treating the symptoms of an injury and fixing the underlying cause is the difference between temporary pain and a chronic issue. By using physical therapy exercises and adjustments, your chiropractor can increase your wellness and treat what medicine often can’t.
Chiropractic and physical therapy are known to help a variety of injuries and disorders by treating the spine and nervous system and muscles directly. The alignment of the body is also addressed, which has a profound effect on the entire body. By removing impairments from the nervous system, such as subluxations and misalignment, the body is able to communicate between its systems better and heal itself from its injuries and ailments. From carpal tunnel syndrome to joint, back and neck pain, chiropractic treatment and physical therapy can help you recover from your work injuries.

If you are looking to begin your healing process after a work injury, it’s time to schedule an appointment with us by calling 301-220-0496. For more information, visit www.BezakChiroAndRehab.com

Sports Injury

Sports Injury
Athletes constantly strive to better their performance, and, in the process, they push their bodies to their limits. However, even if rigorous training and strict diets help them improve their abilities, without chiropractic, an athlete cannot reach their peak physical form and may suffer injuries that will leave them on the sidelines. At Bezak Chiropractic and Rehabilitation, we help athletes recover from injuries quickly and effectively, by treating problems at the root and by ensuring that the spine and joints are in proper alignment.

Even with meticulous care, musculoskeletal injuries during training or play can occur. If you find yourself suffering from an injury or nagging pain, chiropractic might be the best option you can take. With the ability to treat sports injuries effectively, our doctors treat the root of the problem and not just the individual injury. Since the body is an integrated system, the misalignment of the spine or other part of the body can cause injuries to seemingly unrelated areas. By treating your entire body as a whole and paying special attention to the spine, joints, muscles, nerves and tendons, chiropractic and physical therapy can help sports injuries heal more completely and prevent further injuries down the line.

Chiropractic should be a vital part of an athlete’s routine to ensure that the body functions at peak levels. Whether you’re suffering from an injury or not, if you’re an athlete, schedule an appointment by calling 301-220-0496. For more information, visit www.BezakChiroandRehab.com

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger point therapy is a method of chiropractic treatment that is typically used on patients with pain, discomfort, tension and “knots” in specific muscle groups and nerve sites of the body. These knots are called trigger points, and they often form in overused or injured muscles. At Bezak Chiropractic and Rehabilitation this therapy is used for a variety of conditions.

Typically employed on patients with myofascial conditions or fibromyalgia, trigger point therapy focuses on patients’ individual trigger points, using static compression to gradually release the trigger points. Static compression involves pressure being applied in 10-second intervals to the area. This motion releases endorphins, which helps to release tension among the muscle fibers and nerves. It is a specialized technique designed to gradually release the existing trigger points and prevent the chronic tension and strain that creates these inflexible points.

Trigger points often present themselves with sharp pain, dull aches or sensations of pins and needs. Sometimes these points are latent and won’t be noticed until a stressor activates them. By combining chiropractic and physical therapy knowledge, our doctors are able to successfully treat and prevent painful trigger points and can help you restore your muscles to peak function. Schedule an appointment at our practice to treat and prevent these painful trigger points by calling 301-220-0496.

Knee Pain

Knee Pain
Because the legs are used in everyday life and the knee is such a complex joint, we see a lot of patients here at Bezak Chiropractic and Rehabilitation complaining of knee pain. While it can be more common in middle aged and senior adults, knee pain occurs at any age, and for many different reasons.

Knee pain also varies in severity from mild annoyance to severe and debilitating pain. Some pain in the knees is experienced only while doing certain activities, such as running or bending, while other patients have chronic and consistent pain in their knees.

Some things that might cause knee pain include vehicle accidents, work-related injuries, falling and having fractures, overuse or exertion, improper alignment, flat feet and lack of stability, disease, or genetic weakness of the knees. Some patients also find that they start getting pain in their knee from an old sports injury occurring 15-20 years prior.

Treatments for knee pain at Bezak Chiropractic and Rehabilitation start with finding the cause of the pain and treating that cause. It may be cortisone injections, therapeutic exercise and physical therapy, massage, or encouraging a change in their diet, such as increasing anti-inflammatory and antioxidant foods.

You don’t have to live with knee pain. Contact our chiropractor Dr. Brian Bezak in Greenbelt, MD to discuss your knee pain treatment options.

Leg Pain

Here at Bezak Chiropractic and Rehabilitation, we see patients for a wide range of medical conditions that often include pain in one or more parts of the body. Leg pain is a common complaint, as it can be caused by so many different factors.

Leg pain can be a source of an injury or trauma, sciatica pain, muscle pain and cramping from physical activity, immobility, or lack of flexibility following leg surgery. It can also be a sign of a medical condition or disease. Leg pain can also accompany other symptoms, like numbness, tingling, weakness, or muscle spasms.

Chiropractic treatments for leg pain vary depending on the cause. We take X-rays to determine the cause of the pain, as this dictates our preferred treatment plan. For example, if the pain is radiating from the buttocks or lower back, it is commonly from sciatica pain, and we treat sciatica with a spinal adjustment. By knowing the details surrounding the pain, such as when the symptoms started, the location, and how mild or severe the symptoms are, we can plot the best treatment plan.

Call Dr. Brian Bezak at 301-220-0496 to discuss getting chiropractic treatment for any leg pain you are experiencing.

Middle Back Pain

Middle back pain is a type of pain and discomfort experienced in the middle part of the back, and is often the result of torn or strained ligaments and muscles. Middle back pain is not as common as low back pain, but still can be very uncomfortable for our patients. Dr. Brian Bezak offers patients a variety of chiropractic treatments that not only help them find relief, but prevent future occurrences from happening.

Before deciding what treatment is most effective, we focus on diagnosing cause of the pain. These are common causes for middle back pain:
1. Poor posture.
2. Carrying a heavy backpack.
3. Sleeping on a mattress without adequate support.
4. Obesity
5. Arthritis.

While these are not the only causes of middle back pain, we see these causes of middle back pain frequently.

After a physical examination, our patients usually get an adjustment for their pain. This helps manipulate the spine to realign the vertebrae, which can often help relieve the pressure and pain on its own. We also provide physical therapy, therapeutic massage, and rehabilitation exercises to further help with treating and preventing middle back pain.

If you are having middle back pain, stop suffering. Visit Bezak Chiropractic and Rehabilitation in Greenbelt, MD to start on your treatments for middle back pain.

Tingling sensations in the feet, hands, or arms are uncomfortable and can also be a sign of another type of medical condition. They are most common in the hands and feet, though can be felt just about anywhere in the body.

Tingling is often combined with feelings of numbness or radiating pain, though not always. Tingling is described as feeling like pins and needles, and caused by anything from infection and diabetes, to a pinched nerve or a traumatic injury. Even a nutritional deficiency can be the culprit for experiencing tingling.

To treat tingling, Bezak Chiropractic and Rehabilitation recommends the following treatment options based on the cause of the tingling:
  • Therapeutic massage
  • Medications
  • Yoga
  • Stretching
  • Exercise therapy
  • Physical therapy
  • Physiotherapy
  • Adjustments and manipulations
  • Steroid injections
  • Surgery, depending on the cause
Dr. Brian Bezak uses various procedures, ranging from injections to adjustments, in order to remove nerve irritation that is causing tingling. If you have tingling and want to start on your treatments, call us at 301-220-0496 to schedule an appointment in our Greenway Medical Center location.

Ultrasound

Here at Bezak Chiropractic and Rehabilitation, we provide a wide range of chiropractic treatments for our patients, including ultrasound therapy. Ultrasound therapy is performed in our office to treat a variety of conditions. This is not the same ultrasound technology used as an imaging and diagnostic tool, but meant to use sound waves for providing exceptional relief of muscle spasms, joint pain, and pain associated with soft tissue injuries.

Ultrasound treatment works by using sound waves to cause gentle vibration of the patient’s soft tissues and muscle. It is often used in conjunction with other treatments for the best relief possible. The vibration of sound waves work well on patients that have tightness in their joints and need to their muscles to relax. The sound waves are also combined with heat that helps to provide a better overall healing process.

Patients get ultrasound therapy for many different conditions and injuries. Some patients come to us because of muscle soreness or joint tightness, while others have had a vehicle accident and they need the treatment for their injuries.

Please visit our chiropractor Dr. Brian Bezak in Greenbelt, MD to discuss the many benefits of ultrasound treatments.

Hand Pain

Many of our patients here at Bezek Chiropractic and Rehabilitation spend a good deal of time during their workday at the computer doing repetitive motions. Some even go home to spend even more time using the computer keyboard. As a result, they often come to us complaining of tingling, numbness and pain in their hands and wrist. Some even tell us they are unable to grip objects as a result of the pain and numbness.

This numbness, tingling and hand pain is indicative of repetitive motion injury known as carpal tunnel syndrome. It is caused by pressure and compression placed on the median nerve, which runs through your forearm to your hand.

Dr. Brian Bezak offers his patients natural chiropractic treatment to ease the symptoms of hand pain. These include myofascial release, personalized exercise, cervical traction, and ergonomic instructions. In addition, in some cases, chiropractic adjustments may be recommended.

Chiropractic care for hand pain in our Greenbelt, MD office can be of great benefit in treating carpal tunnel syndrome and other types of hand and wrist pain.

Elbow Pain

Did you know that common elbow conditions can be successfully treated by us here at Bezek Chiropractic and Rehabilitation? Chiropractic care is an excellent option for elbow pain relief because it avoids the use of surgeries or the reliance on medications.

Chiropractic care for elbow pain focuses on correcting the structural components, such as your muscles and bones, of your elbow, so that you can not only receive pain relief but have a strengthened elbow to prevent future elbow problems from reoccurring.

Two of the most common conditions associated with elbow pain, and for which Dr. Brian Bezak treats, are tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow.

  • ·         Medial epicondylitis, more commonly known as golfer’s elbow, is an inflammation at the focal point where the bony area of the inner elbow attaches to the tendons of the forearm. It is characterized by tenderness and pain in the inner elbow region.

Sprain/Strain

Sprains and strains both cause persistent pain and lack of mobility for patients. While they have similar causes and symptoms, they are not actually the same thing. A sprain is an injury that occurs with the ligament, which connects bones to a joint. A strain is an injury to a tendon or muscle that is connected to a bone. Sprains of the ankle are most common, though some people find that they have sprained their wrist. Strains are most common in the back of the thigh (hamstring), arm, hand and elbow.

Sprains are typically caused by accident, like falling or twisting, though blunt force to the area can also be a cause. Strains are similar, though often less severe than a sprain. The signs and symptoms of sprains and strains are quite similar to each other. They include:

  • Pain

  • Muscle spasms or weakness

  • Swelling

  • Bruising

  • The inability to move the joint

  • Cramping

Here at Bezak Chiropractic and Rehabilitation, Dr. Brian Bezak offers chiropractic and rehab for sprains and strains and encourages patients to visit the Greenbelt, MD clinic for possible treatments. This includes manipulation of the affected joints, bracing the joint and soft tissue therapy. We also provide nutritional and exercise suggestions for faster healing. Workplace Ergonomics

We have found that many injuries and cases of chronic back, shoulder, neck or wrist pain, stem from how the patient is positioned while at work. Learning about workplace ergonomics is essential.  It helps our patients learn how to avoid injuries at work when using the tools and equipment of their trade.

One significant component of workplace ergonomics is that the workspace needs to be set up in a way that provides minimal, natural movement of the body. It helps patients have less neck and back pain, and can even reduce the frequency and severity of headaches. If you have been experiencing pain, visiting Dr. Brian Bezak can help, as chiropractic care is highly successful for workplace injuries.

We use different types of procedures and treatments for the help of workplace injuries. These include adjustments and manipulations, electric muscle stimulation, stretching for better range of motion, rehabilitation exercises, and massage therapy. Here at Bezak Chiropractic and Rehabilitation, we also provide advice and recommendations for better workplace ergonomics. If you are unsure of how to properly set up your workspace, contact us and we will provide the best course of action for prevention, as well as treatment for your current injuries.

Weight Training

Like strength training and cardiovascular exercise, weight training is a beneficial activity for the health of your body. While weight training helps to promote strong bone health, it can cause a variety of injuries — particularly when done improperly.

Bench presses, squats, lunges, dead lifts and curls are types of weight lifting techniques that can lead to injuries. The most common weight lifting injuries involve the back, shoulders, and knees because they bear the brunt of the range of motion and weight lifted during a weight lifting session. These injuries include:

  • Shoulder Impingement Syndrome - Inflammation of the tendons that hold the shoulder in its proper position.

  • Patellar tendonitis - Inflammation of the tendons of the knee.

  • Rotator cuff tears - Refers to a rip in one or more tendons of the shoulder.

  • Back strain or sprain - While a strain involves torn tendons or muscles, sprains relate to stretched or torn ligaments.

  • Herniated disk - Refers to a slippage or rupture of one of the cushions between the vertebrae within the backbone.

Here at Bezak Chiropractic and Rehabilitation, we have seen our share of injuries suffered as a result of improper techniques used in weightlifting, whether they are sustained by amateur or professional weightlifters. Fortunately, injured weightlifters can see tremendous benefits from chiropractic treatments. If you are an injured weight lifter or want to learn more about preventing weight lifting injuries, contact us directly today.

Core Stability

If you are one of the millions of Americans who suffer from back pain, core stability exercises in conjunction with chiropractic spinal adjustments can help provide relief from back pain. However, you need not be suffering from back pain to benefit from core stability exercises. Strengthening your core is an important step in maintaining good spinal health and preventing injuries.

Core stability describes the area of the body involving the abdominal wall, the lower back, the pelvis, and the diaphragm (in other words, your torso) along with the ability to stabilize the entire body during activity. Strengthening your core through core stability exercise is a powerful way to prevent and beat back pain. However, before starting a new exercise training program, it is important to learn proper form and technique.

Here at Bezak Chiropractic and Rehabilitation, we can recommend the best core stability and core strengthening exercises for you and teach you the proper form and techniques for carrying these exercises out. Give us a call today at 301-220-0496 or stop in at our Greenbelt office to learn more about core stability.
