Whiplash

Whiplash is a term applied to injuries that occur to the neck when it is whipped in one direction and then jerked in another. Although this injury is common during auto accidents, it can also be incredibly damaging. Many whiplash injuries involve sprains—which happen when the ligaments that support, protect and restrict vertebral movement are torn—and strains—which occur when muscles and tendons in the neck are stretched beyond their normal limits. Even the discs between vertebrae in the cervical spine can be torn with whiplash, resulting in disc herniation.

The most common symptoms of whiplash include pain and stiffness in the neck and headaches at the base of the skull, and these symptoms can last for weeks or months, and even years if left untreated. Here at Bezak Chiropractic and Rehabilitation, we can provide quality chiropractic care to accelerate healing and ensure that your injury does not persist. With adjustments, therapeutic exercise and soft-tissue treatment can help control your pain and reduce muscle spasms.

If you’ve been in an automobile accident, Dr. Brian Bezak, Dr. Shaun Bezak and Dr. Kelly Krol-Bezak can ensure that your accident doesn’t cause you pain long after it’s over. Call 301-220-0496 to schedule an appointment in Greenbelt, MD.  For more information, visit www.bezakchiroandrehab.com.

Osteoarthritis

There are more than 100 different types of arthritis, and the most common one is osteoarthritis. While all the different types involve inflammation and swelling in and around the joints, osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease that is caused by wear and tear as you age. Usually occurring in the weight-bearing joints, such as the hips, knees or spine, osteoarthritis can also affect your hands and feet.

Women are more likely to develop osteoarthritis than men and in those older than 60. However, osteoarthritis has been diagnosed in much younger individuals in their 20s and 30s. Some factors increase an individual’s chance of developing the disease, including heredity, obesity and overuse of the joint.

If you are suffering from osteoarthritis, Bezak Chiropractic and Rehabilitation can help. Our chiropractors can provide you with chiropractic adjustments to ensure your body is properly aligned and functioning properly. The doctor will also help you develop a therapeutic exercise routine, which will help you preserve a good range of motion, as well as build the strength in the stabilizing muscles around your affected joint.

If you are suffering from osteoarthritis, we can help alleviate your pain and improve your quality of life. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Brian Bezak, Dr. Shaun Bezak or Dr. Kelly Krol-Bezak, call 301-220-0496. For more information, visit www.bezakchiroandrehab.com

Lower Back Pain

Your lumbar vertebrae, or lower back vertebrae, are larger than any others in your spine and are responsible for supporting the weight of your upper body. While these vertebrae can withstand powerful forces form your lower back muscles during lifting, bending and twisting, it is common to experience lower back pain and injuries. At our office in Greenbelt, MD, the chiropractors have the experience and skills to provide you with effective chiropractic treatment for alleviating your back pain.

Lower back pain is commonly caused by muscle, nerve, ligament and spinal injuries, as well as by poor posture and degenerative diseases. Poor posture can cause accelerated wear and tear to your spine because undue stress can be placed on the lumbar vertebrae, while degenerative diseases, such as arthritis, can cause structures in the spine to break down and put pressure on the spinal cord or nerves. Nerve pressure in the lumbar spine can cause pain and symptoms to spread from the back to the buttocks, legs and feet because the nerves that exit the lumbar spine travel to these areas.

If you’re experiencing lower back pain, you do not have to resort to surgery or rely heavily on pain medication. At Bezak Chiropractic and Rehabilitation, many of our patients find relief from their pain through chiropractic treatments that include adjustments, intersegmental traction, trigger point therapy and other therapies, such as ultrasound, electrical muscle stimulation and cryotherapy. These methods can alleviate tension, relieve pain and help restore proper movement.

Those experiencing lower back pain can turn to Dr. Brian Bezak, Dr. Shaun Bezak and Dr. Kelly Krol-Bezak. To schedule an appointment, call 301-220-0496. For more information , visit www.bezakchiroandrehab.com.

Rotator Cuff Injuries

One of the most common injuries that athletes incur is a tear in the rotator cuff, which is a group of four muscles and tendons that surround the shoulder to provide movement and stability. The tendons from these muscles attach to the top of the humerus, and this is where most tears occur, although muscles are sometimes involved. Rotator cuff tears can be paused by direct blows to the shoulder, by falling on the arm while it is outstretched and by having your arm yanked. Impingement (tendinitis), where the rotator cuff tendons rub against the shoulder blade, can also cause the rotator cuff to become inflamed, fray and weaken.

People most susceptible to these injuries include swimmers, tennis players, baseball players and other participants in activities that involve a lot of arm movement overhead. Your risk for injury is also higher if you are over the age of 40 since muscles and tendons lose elasticity as you age.

If you have torn your rotator cuff, we can help without the need for steroid injections or surgery. Here at Bezak Chiropractic and Rehabilitation in Greenbelt, MD, we use multitude of holistic therapies, such as electrical muscle stimulation and cryotherapy, to promote healing and reduce pain and inflammation. Additionally, chiropractic adjustments and targeted exercises can be used to restore mobility and range of movement. In about six to eight weeks, you will notice a significant improvement.

Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy

Chiropractic care during pregnancy is not only safe but incredibly beneficial. During pregnancy, women experience many changes in their body, including changes in pelvic alignment, changes in posture and an increased back curve that comes with a protruding abdomen. These changes can result in a misaligned spine or joints. It is important to maintain proper alignment during pregnancy so that the baby can have enough room to develop, as well as to keep the nervous system and the rest of your body functioning properly.

At Bezak Chiropractic and Rehabilitation, the chiropractors utilize adjustment techniques that do not place pressure on the abdomen, making chiropractic care completely safe and possible for pregnant women. With regular chiropractic care, our chiropractor can help you have a healthy pregnancy, while controlling the symptoms of nausea and relieving pain in your back, neck and joints.

Adjustments can also help reduce time of labor and delivery and prevent the need for a cesarean section. By keeping the spine in alignment, there will be more room for the baby to turn and get into the proper position in preparation for delivery, which will decrease the chance of a breach birth or need for medical intervention.

If you are pregnant, call our office at 301-220-0496 to schedule an appointment. For more information, visit www.bezakchiroandrehab.com.

Chiropractic Care and Stress

From traffic jams and work deadlines to bills and annoying coworkers, stress invades our lives on a daily basis, and while we can’t completely eliminate stressors from our lives, we can learn to handle them better. Although some people naturally deal with stress more effectively than others, everyone can benefit from working with a chiropractor.

Regular chiropractic care, which improves nerve and spinal function, has a dramatic impact on improving your emotional, mental and physical states, which all determine how we deal with stress. While stress is known to interfere with our immune systems, studies have shown that those who receive regular chiropractic care have 200 percent greater immune competence than those who do not receive chiropractic care and 400 percent greater immune competence than those with cancer and other serious diseases. This means that chiropractic care can reduce the negative effects that stress has on our bodies and put us in a better state for dealing with future stressors.

If you feel like stress is taking a toll on your life, we can help at Bezak Chiropractic and Rehabilitation. To schedule an appointment with our office in Greenbelt, MD and rid yourself of stress’s negative effects, call 301-220-0496. For more information, visit www.bezakchiroandrehab.com.

Slip and Fall Injuries

Slipping and falling is one of the most common accidents that can lead to injuries. More detrimental that most people realize, slip and fall incidents can cause trauma to bones, joints, ligaments and muscle tissue. Whether it triggers misalignment of the spine or subluxation, these accidents can interfere with the nervous system and cause pinched nerves, soreness, pain and even a lasting disability. However, chiropractic treatment at Bezak Chiropractic and Rehabilitation can help heal your body and prevent future pain, illnesses and injuries.

Anyone who has slipped and fallen should come to our chiropractic offices. Providing a holistic and natural approach to healing your body and reducing pain, our chiropractors will correct any misalignments and rid your nervous system of interference triggered by the accident. By fixing misalignments and subluxations, chiropractic frees your nervous system to coordinate the body’s systems more efficiently, which allows your body to heal more effectively and more quickly. Chiropractic treatment promotes healing and can remove the need for surgery to regain proper function.

Even those who do not feel pain after a slip and fall should still come to our offices for an alignment. The spine could still have been thrown into misalignment during the accident, which can interrupt proper function of the immune system and cause further problems.

If you’ve slipped and fallen, we can help at our office in Greenbelt, MD. Just call 301-220-0496 to schedule an appointment. For more information, visit www.bezakchiroandrehab.com

Cryotherapy

At Bezak Chiropractic and Rehabilitation, we are dedicated to relieving pain and restoring patients to optimal health using holistic methods and without relying on drugs or invasive procedures. One such way that our practice treats pains and ailments is with cryotherapy.

Pain and muscle spasms are common responses to soft tissue injuries, and if you’re suffering, cryotherapy can provide pain relief and sooth irritation in the injured tendon, ligament or muscle. This simple and inexpensive technique treats pain with the application of ice, cold towels, ice massages and compresses to reduce the temperature of affected tissues. Surface cooling of the irritated area constricts your blood vessels, numbs the tissue and makes it difficult for muscles to hold contraction, so cryotherapy can effectively reduce nerve transmission and relax muscle spasms for temporary relief.

Cryotherapy can also reduce swelling or inflammation after an injury. If applied after trauma, the injury and resultant pain can be reduced and largely prevented. For maximum effectiveness, cold compresses should be applied frequently for short periods of time.

If you have recently suffered an injury or are experiencing acute pain, it is important to receive care as soon as possible. Drugs are not the only way to treat pain. You can stop by our office for beneficial and holistic treatment, as well as continue cryotherapy at home.

Work Injuries

If you’ve been injured at work and traditional medicine isn’t doing enough to help you, chiropractic is a great solution for dealing with injuries and their underlying causes. While medical doctors tend to treat symptoms, chiropractors treat the root of your pain. At Bezak Chiropractic and Rehabilitation, we work with workers compensation cases in Greenbelt, MD to heal your body and help you achieve maximum health.

The alignment of the body is also addressed, which has a profound effect on the entire body. Sciatica

Sciatica is not a stand-alone medical condition but rather a set of symptoms described as persistent pain along the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve, which runs from the lower back through the buttocks and into the lower leg, is the longest and widest nerve in the body, and it controls the muscles of the lower leg and provides sensation to the thighs, legs and feet. Intersegmental Traction

Your back is a system of muscles that is responsible for a tremendous range of motion, and when these muscles become fatigued, stressed or injured, they can spasm and eventually develop chronic muscle guarding. Intersegmental traction is an effective therapy for treating and preventing muscle spasms and guarding in your spinal muscles, and at Bezak Chiropractic and Rehabilitation, we offer this treatment to increase both the spinal health and overall wellness of our patients in Greenbelt, MD.

By inducing passive motion into your spine, intersegmental traction increases mobility and stretches spinal joints. Since your spinal discs have poor blood supply, they rely on spinal movement to provide and maintain nourishment. With proper spinal mechanics, the needed proteins and nutrients are able to enter the disc and keep them working and feeling great. However, if your spine is misaligned, the proper supply of nutrients cannot occur, and disc thinning and degeneration of the spine may result.

Intersegmental traction restores proper motion and function to the spine’s discs. Patients lie on a table made especially for this type of treatment. It has vibrating roller-type cams beneath its surface. The rollers travel up and down the spine slowly, compressing and massaging the pine while flexing and extending each of its joints. This strengthens the muscle and ligaments in your spine, which helps restore mobility and health.

Whether you are experiencing muscle spasms in your back or just some general tightness, schedule an appointment with our office by calling 301-220-0496. For more information, visit www.BezakChiroAndRehab.com

By fixing your alignment and treating the source of your injuries, your body’s total health can be restored, which can resolve accident-related issues and prevent future ones. Sports Injury

Sports Injury
Athletes constantly strive to better their performance, and, in the process, they push their bodies to their limits. However, even if rigorous training and strict diets help them improve their abilities, without chiropractic, an athlete cannot reach their peak physical form and may suffer injuries that will leave them on the sidelines. At Bezak Chiropractic and Rehabilitation, we help athletes recover from injuries quickly and effectively, by treating problems at the root and by ensuring that the spine and joints are in proper alignment.

Even with meticulous care, musculoskeletal injuries during training or play can occur. If you find yourself suffering from an injury or nagging pain, chiropractic might be the best option you can take. With the ability to treat sports injuries effectively, our doctors treat the root of the problem and not just the individual injury. Since the body is an integrated system, the misalignment of the spine or other part of the body can cause injuries to seemingly unrelated areas. By treating your entire body as a whole and paying special attention to the spine, joints, muscles, nerves and tendons, chiropractic and physical therapy can help sports injuries heal more completely and prevent further injuries down the line.

Chiropractic should be a vital part of an athlete’s routine to ensure that the body functions at peak levels. Whether you’re suffering from an injury or not, if you’re an athlete, schedule an appointment by calling 301-220-0496. For more information, visit www.BezakChiroandRehab.com

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger point therapy is a method of chiropractic treatment that is typically used on patients with pain, discomfort, tension and “knots” in specific muscle groups and nerve sites of the body. These knots are called trigger points, and they often form in overused or injured muscles. At Bezak Chiropractic and Rehabilitation this therapy is used for a variety of conditions.

Typically employed on patients with myofascial conditions or fibromyalgia, trigger point therapy focuses on patients’ individual trigger points, using static compression to gradually release the trigger points. Static compression involves pressure being applied in 10-second intervals to the area. This motion releases endorphins, which helps to release tension among the muscle fibers and nerves. It is a specialized technique designed to gradually release the existing trigger points and prevent the chronic tension and strain that creates these inflexible points.

Trigger points often present themselves with sharp pain, dull aches or sensations of pins and needs. Sometimes these points are latent and won’t be noticed until a stressor activates them. By combining chiropractic and physical therapy knowledge, our doctors are able to successfully treat and prevent painful trigger points and can help you restore your muscles to peak function. Schedule an appointment at our practice to treat and prevent these painful trigger points by calling 301-220-0496.

Electrical Muscle Stimulation

Electrical Muscle Stimulation
Chiropractic treats the body as an integrated network of systems and aims to treat pains and illnesses at their route while promoting the overall health of the body. By correcting misalignment of the spine and joints and utilizing non-invasive treatment methods, our chiropractors at Bezak Chiropractic and Rehabilitation help the body heal from a variety of issues, including soft-tissue injuries and muscle spasms. One common method that our practice uses to achieve healing is electrical muscle stimulation.

Electrical muscle stimulation is an effective way to relieve pain and help the body heal. It works by sending a small electrical current into the affected muscles, which causes the brain to send a nerve impulse to the motor point of the muscles and tell it to expand and contract. The expanding and contracting leads to the release of the body’s natural pain relievers, such as endorphins, which helps reduce swelling and release trigger points that may be causing the muscles to lock up.

While the amount of electricity used in this method is minute, it is enough to serve as an effective therapy for treating soft tissue injuries, muscle spasms and associate pain. When combined with other chiropractic procedures, affected muscles are relaxed and returned to a natural, healthy state.

Schedule an appointment with Bezak Chiropractic and Rehabilitation to receive quality chiropractic care combined with physical therapy knowledge. Call 301-220-0496 to schedule. For more information, visitwww.BezakChiroandRehab.com

Exercise Therapy

Exercise Therapy
Exercise therapy is a type of therapy provided to our patients here at Bezak Chiropractic and Rehabilitation. We utilize various types of exercises that help improve the strength, flexibility, and mobility of our patients. Exercise therapy involves exercises alone as well as with several tools and accessories, like wobble boards, exercise balls, tubing, and balance boards.

There are many reasons that someone needs exercise therapy, including being in a vehicle accident, having a work-related or personal injury, or experiencing weakened muscles in the body, especially those supporting joints or the spine.

The type of exercises and movements used in exercise therapy depend on the reason our patients need it. In other words, we use a very individualized approach to exercise therapy with our patients. Some patients have had a surgery or major injury, so their exercises are much different than someone who is seeing us because of chronic lower back pain or a repetitive motion injury from their job.

We also look at our patient’s current strength and flexibility is to determine the best exercises to start with. For example, with lower back pain, we use stretching of the hamstrings and abductors, strengthening their trunk muscles, and promoting better balance.

Leg Pain

Here at Bezak Chiropractic and Rehabilitation, we see patients for a wide range of medical conditions that often include pain in one or more parts of the body. Leg pain is a common complaint, as it can be caused by so many different factors.

Leg pain can be a source of an injury or trauma, sciatica pain, muscle pain and cramping from physical activity, immobility, or lack of flexibility following leg surgery. It can also be a sign of a medical condition or disease. Leg pain can also accompany other symptoms, like numbness, tingling, weakness, or muscle spasms.

Chiropractic treatments for leg pain vary depending on the cause. We take X-rays to determine the cause of the pain, as this dictates our preferred treatment plan. For example, if the pain is radiating from the buttocks or lower back, it is commonly from sciatica pain, and we treat sciatica with a spinal adjustment. By knowing the details surrounding the pain, such as when the symptoms started, the location, and how mild or severe the symptoms are, we can plot the best treatment plan.

Call Dr. Brian Bezak at 301-220-0496 to discuss getting chiropractic treatment for any leg pain you are experiencing.

Middle Back Pain

Middle back pain is a type of pain and discomfort experienced in the middle part of the back, and is often the result of torn or strained ligaments and muscles. Middle back pain is not as common as low back pain, but still can be very uncomfortable for our patients. Dr. Brian Bezak offers patients a variety of chiropractic treatments that not only help them find relief, but prevent future occurrences from happening.

Before deciding what treatment is most effective, we focus on diagnosing cause of the pain. These are common causes for middle back pain:
1. Poor posture.
2. Carrying a heavy backpack.
3. Sleeping on a mattress without adequate support.
4. Obesity
5. Arthritis.

While these are not the only causes of middle back pain, we see these causes of middle back pain frequently.

After a physical examination, our patients usually get an adjustment for their pain. This helps manipulate the spine to realign the vertebrae, which can often help relieve the pressure and pain on its own. We also provide physical therapy, therapeutic massage, and rehabilitation exercises to further help with treating and preventing middle back pain.

If you are having middle back pain, stop suffering. Visit Bezak Chiropractic and Rehabilitation in Greenbelt, MD to start on your treatments for middle back pain.

Ultrasound

Here at Bezak Chiropractic and Rehabilitation, we provide a wide range of chiropractic treatments for our patients, including ultrasound therapy. Ultrasound therapy is performed in our office to treat a variety of conditions. This is not the same ultrasound technology used as an imaging and diagnostic tool, but meant to use sound waves for providing exceptional relief of muscle spasms, joint pain, and pain associated with soft tissue injuries.

Ultrasound treatment works by using sound waves to cause gentle vibration of the patient’s soft tissues and muscle. It is often used in conjunction with other treatments for the best relief possible. The vibration of sound waves work well on patients that have tightness in their joints and need to their muscles to relax. The sound waves are also combined with heat that helps to provide a better overall healing process.

Patients get ultrasound therapy for many different conditions and injuries. Some patients come to us because of muscle soreness or joint tightness, while others have had a vehicle accident and they need the treatment for their injuries.

Please visit our chiropractor Dr. Brian Bezak in Greenbelt, MD to discuss the many benefits of ultrasound treatments.
